Spring Fling
Yes , I'm already spring shopping and I cannot wait for this look to arrive at my door ! My spring wardrobe theme is neon, from the clothes, shoes, and accessories. I am also obsessed with anything made out of jersey material, it's just so perfect. What's your spring inspiration ? -xoxo JT

The Duties of A Costume Designer
The duties of a costume designer for film and theater is a big difference. I've discussed on here some of the early steps for a film job but I never said the rest.
On set you make sure that all of the actor's clothes are pressed and neat, and in their rooms or trailers. Once their on set make sure everything is on right and snap a photo for your look book. A look book helps production if they go back for re shoots. A look book has every character in the movie and what they wore for each scene in detail, along with their photo.
Once your actor is on set and acting , you have to check their looks in between each scene. I have to make sure his tie is straight or crooked, it has to match up with the previous scene !
On the short film I did, the guy had to dig a grave so I had to make his clothes dirty. Costume designers make blood and bullet holes and all kinds of stuff. So I used all different kinds of makeup and smeared it all over his clothes. It turned out really well !
Well those are some of the jobs for costume designers on set of a film. I am interning on another film next month, so there's more to come ! -xoxo Jt

Red Carpet Favs:SAG Awards
I really only watch award shows to see the red carpet, and see what actors broke the fashion scale or completely fell off of it. Here are some of my favorite looks from last nights SAG awards.
Look one is Sofia Vergara from Modern Family and she is glowing in that Donna Karan Atelier strapless gown. Next is Lupita Nyong'o who is literally a vision in the turquoise Gucci dress. Last is my favorite actress from Breaking Bad, Anna Gunn in a stunning Monique Lhuillier Resort dress with a perfect Breaking Bad logo emblazoned Edie Parker clutch. Way to go ladies !
One I didn't particularly like was Kerry Washington's look. I love the daring idea of wearing a crop top and a skirt while six months pregnant, but the two items just didn't clash. I love the show Scandal and she is my girl, but this look makes me cringe. What do you think ? Hit or miss ?

You've Struck Gold: The Thrift Store
Never underestimate a thrift store, you'll never believe what you'll find. Some people are just plain snobs when it comes to a thrift store. Used clothes ?! *gasp* But guess what , all of my clothes that I get the most compliments on are from *gasp*, a thrift store. And I am not the only one who goes thrifting, celebrities do it to. Such as Miguel, Elle Varner, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rachel Zoe ( celebrity stylist ). It's like panning for gold, you get a lot of junk but sometimes you find something great. You have to be patient and really love to shop, because going to a thrift store requires a lot of digging. Thrift stores are a place for fashion forward people and vintage lovers, because you can find some really timeless pieces. I'll never reveal where my thrift store is, find another gold mine for yourselves haha.
If you plan to go to the thrift store here's some tips :
If you plan to go to the thrift store here's some tips :
- Don't get overwhelmed, have a idea of what you're looking for.
- Give the clothes a chance, if it seems crazy and different just buy it ! It's only three or four dollars but it could become a key item in your wardrobe.
- Look at everything, never leave a rock unturned, cause you might miss something that could be great.
- If something is damaged, like a missing button or a little tear, you can fix it !
- Wash everything you buy before wearing it
- Don't buy underwear, bras, lingerie, socks, bathing suits, sheets, and towels.

What a beauty <3 |
I'm telling you it was love at first sight.I love wearing combat boots , but everyone is wearing combat boots now, so I'm on to the next thing. Cut out boots are edgy, different and add a twist that your outfit needs. I say it's a YAY, these boots are up and coming and are definitely the go to shoe for spring.
Now how to wear them? That's up to you, it can work for any style type from girly girl to edgy. Wear the boots with jeans, a skirt, even a dress, these boots are the answer to all. Yay ! Happy trending !- xoxo JT

Shopping Is Just A Job
It was the first time I saw my name next to wardrobe on a call sheet, to finally see my moment here ! I was in charge for wardrobe for a short film, and I couldn't wait to start. I went to my first production meeting, kind of nervous but excited. Production meetings is when they discuss all the details about the movie to the crew, and talk about budget. I was given two hundred dollars to buy complete outfits for two men, and I was ready for the challenge.
I had to read the whole script, understand who the characters are and create a vision. Once I take detail notes, it's time to get shopping ! Costume designers who go over budget are not really hired again, so I used my retailer instinct to stay as low as possible. You also need at least three or four options, cause with movies you never know what situation is going to pop up, or what you picked is going to work out. I always follow my gut, when I pick a shirt up I can feel it, I know I could see the character wearing it.
One guy in the short was Ray, and he had been up all night because he killed a guy. Along comes his uptight friend Deke who has to help him bury the body. So I knew that Ray who's been up all night has to wear a wrinkled shirt, a cap and some jeans. I imagined Deke in a wimpy colored shirt, like pink or purple with some khakis.

Fashion & Movies
Costumes help tell a story, without costumes a movie or play would be boring , confusing, and just plain dumb. I always wanted to be the head costume designer of a movie, and finally my chance is here. It's a short film with two men at a bar, and I want to nail it.
The hardest thing about being a costume designer is making sure your vision is the same as the director's. Sure you get to go shopping and have total freedom, but it has to do the character justice. So yea there is a lot of pressure to pull this off , even if it's just costumes for two guys at a bar. I always want to do good job , I guess I am perfectionist in that way. It's
cool that I get paid to shop, cause everybody knows I love money and shopping !

Azztec Fur Coat
Creating things can be a long process, and at some points I ask my self is it all worth it ? But when you finish what your making , it's amazing to see what you've done. To be able to say ' yea I made it' and impress other people, that feeling is the best. It's one of the reasons what keeps me going, what makes me continue to sew and create.
This here is my winter coat I just finished, it took me about two weeks. I normally don't make things for myself but I really wanted to make my own coat ! I added my own style into the coat by adding the fur details to the sleeves, and different colors of the buttons. I'm really happy with the end result, and can't wait to wear it out in this crazy Cleveland weather.
