Sweater Must Haves

The sweater game is changing and I am in love... fashion is such a beautiful thing..No more boring grandma sweaters.. or plain cardigans.. sweaters can be fierce. Sweaters have always been my fav article of clothing because..
  1.  It keeps you warm
  2. You look cute without even trying
  3. You can wear it to almost any occasion
  4. And if you have a belly, it hides it perfectly (I'm not admitting I have one.. but the treadmill has been lonely lately.)
What to look out for :

  • Two piece sweater outfits , like sweater dresses cut into two pieces.. this is HUGE
  • Sweaters that have a masculine touch, varsity inspired or sporty
  • Long cloak like cardigans ( nothing like Harry Potter)
  • A lil twist like zippers, cut out backs or shoulders, sheer
  • Sequins are always a yes
  • Plaids and wooly like fabrics
  • Pastel and light playful colors
I went some of my favorite fashion sites to scope out the sweater game.

Here are some of my favorites for the 'cool bi***', sweaters found on Nasty Gal :

Fall Trends Worth Falling For

Summer is coming to a close,  most of you guys are starting high school / college next week *laughs* I don't start school until October , and I am very excited. Going to college is ..different because you don't need to do back to school shopping. I can get away with wearing my last year clothes, because no one has seen them yet.. Doesn't mean that will stop me from shopping and making things, when you're a fashion design student you have to slay. And I plan to slay the VMCAD campus.

I've been trying to keep up with fall fashion, and it's not much to speak about. Fall is taking a wild turn, instead of dark colors the trend is pastels and whites ? Not sure I'm on board. Let me just talk about my favorite fall trends.

  • DIY Denim
Now is the time to play with jeans ! Go ahead and sew or iron on patches on jeans, the patches can be denim or maybe a print you like. OR add tons of  vintage patches like logos ect. I saw Rita Ora wear jeans with words on it, I thought it was dope so I tried it too. It says Vouge jeans.

  • Sporty Girly
Bold prints and statements,  boyish with a mix of girly. Things like jerseys tees , varsity jackets, jogger pants.

  • Flannel
It's the classic fall trend , but let's add a twist to it. Try mixing it with other prints, go for pastel plaids, or just add some details to the collar, pocket , and elbows,( elbow pads).  Go to goodwill and buy some old flannels and just experiment !
I just added a gold pocket

Those are just some of my favorite trends for fall ! Good luck with school !- xoxo JT

Something Sweet : Valentine's Day Looks

Have any special plans for valentines day and not sure what to wear ? Here are some trends and tips that can help you get through it.
When everybody thinks of valentines day, we think of reds and pinks and floral. Make sure your outfit has a warm and light tone, and if your not that girly there is always a way to add an edge!
Now everybody's style is different but this what I would wear :
For a casual day out I would wear pale color high wasted jeans such as pink, beige, burgundy, with a graphic tee and a leather jacket and or knit cardigan. This outfit is cozy, cute, and casual. Or you can always wear a cut out shoulder sweater and or shirt with some colored pants, and a statement piece of jewelry. Here's some of my fav examples of a cut out sweater.

Both from Forever 21

For a night out you really want to wow your date ! Wear a dress that has a rich color like red or burgundy, and even white. The dress that is hot right now is the skater dress which can come in any color, but what I suggest for valentines day is a floral print, or velvet like material. If you wear a skater dress wear black tights, and make sure you have gold accent accessory pieces, especially if it's long sleeved (which I suggest), you HAVE to wear gold cuffs or bangles. If your dress is short sleeved wear it with a big fur fuzzy coat. Also dresses that wrap, giving a little peek a boo, of your shoulder or a little of your stomach, is very cute also.
Stay away from the basic lace outfit, we know it's valentines day but don't be so predictable.
If your daring wear a sheer dress either black or red, this is what I'm wearing ! I'll also post some pictures of my favorite dresses.Have a fashionable Valentine's day !-xoxo JT

My ultimate favorite look, broke down and bought this too.

You've Struck Gold: The Thrift Store

Never underestimate a thrift store, you'll never believe what you'll find. Some people are just plain snobs when it comes to a thrift store. Used clothes ?! *gasp* But guess what , all of my clothes that I get the most compliments on are from *gasp*, a thrift store. And I am not the only one who goes thrifting, celebrities do it to. Such as Miguel, Elle Varner, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rachel Zoe ( celebrity stylist ). It's like panning for gold, you get a lot of junk but sometimes you find something great. You have to be patient and really love to shop, because going to a thrift store requires a lot of digging. Thrift stores are a place for fashion forward people and vintage lovers, because you can find some really timeless pieces. I'll never reveal where my thrift store is, find another gold mine for yourselves haha.

If you plan to go to the thrift store here's some tips :

  • Don't get overwhelmed, have a idea of what you're looking for.
  • Give the clothes a chance, if it seems crazy and different just buy it ! It's only three or four dollars but it could become a key item in your wardrobe.
  • Look at everything, never leave a rock unturned, cause you might miss something that could be great.
  • If something is damaged, like a missing button or a little tear, you can fix it !
  •  Wash everything you buy before wearing it
  • Don't buy underwear, bras, lingerie, socks, bathing suits, sheets, and towels.
Here's some of my favorite thrift store items ! Good luck and happy thrifting ! - xoxo JT

Shopping Is Just A Job

It was the first time I saw my name next to wardrobe on a call sheet, to finally see my moment here ! I was in charge for wardrobe for a short film, and I couldn't wait to start. I went to my first production meeting, kind of nervous but excited. Production meetings is when they discuss all the details about the movie to the crew, and talk about budget. I was given two hundred dollars to buy complete outfits for two men, and I was ready for the challenge.
I had to read the whole script, understand who the characters are and create a vision. Once I take detail notes, it's time to get shopping ! Costume designers who go over budget are not really hired again, so I used my retailer instinct to stay as low as possible. You also need at least three or four options, cause with movies you never know what situation is going to pop up, or what you picked is going to work out. I always follow my gut, when I pick a shirt up I can feel it, I know I could see the character wearing it.
One guy in the short was Ray, and he had been up all night because he killed a guy. Along comes his uptight friend Deke who has to help him bury the body. So I knew that Ray who's been up all night has to wear a wrinkled shirt, a cap and some jeans. I imagined Deke in a wimpy colored shirt, like pink or purple with some khakis.
My picks pleased the director ! And I was under the budget by fifty dollars !

Fashion & Movies

Costumes help tell a story, without costumes a movie or play would be boring , confusing, and just plain dumb. I always wanted to be the head costume designer of a movie, and finally my chance is here. It's a short film with two men at a bar, and I want to nail it.
The hardest thing about being a costume designer is making sure your vision is the same as the director's. Sure you get to go shopping and have total freedom, but it has to do the character justice. So yea there is a lot of pressure to pull this off , even if it's just costumes for two guys at a bar.  I always want to do good job , I guess I am  perfectionist in that way. It's
cool that I get paid to shop, cause everybody knows I love money and shopping !
