Spring Topz

Spring is right around the corner , ( If you live in Cleveland like me ) ! Now is the time to get your spring wardrobe together, if your a weirdo like me , you already have your spring wardrobe set. But since your probably a normal person and  not fashion crazed, you probably needs some tips.
I'm going to break it down by items, since there is SO much going on for spring. Lets start with TOPS for spring.

  • Color themes for spring, neon and vibrant colors, and nude or pastel tones
  • Ex- hot pink , neon yellow, neon orange, beige , turquoise , all coral colors
All the tops for spring this year have some kind of cut outs, from the shoulders , to the back or the bottom of the top. You can wear these with anything but remember to keep it tasteful . Wear something underneath your cut out tops , especially if it's in the back !

One of my personal favorites is shirts made out of netted or jersey material. I am in love with this style because it adds a little edge to your look. These tops look AMAZING with good with high waisted jeans or pants, and you can always throw a leather jacket over it. The actually jersey shirts are growing on me too, I love the idea of a girly jersey, I just bought one that says west side haha.

Denim & Leather are Bffs now. The trend is to wear a leather bustier with a denim jacket over it with some ripped boyfriend jeans. OR the other way around, wear a denim bustier with a leather jacket. Stretchy denim crop top shirts are in, they can be worn with white pants and if your daring try leather pants. Also denim shirts that have patches on them of lighter and darker denim, or denim shirts with some leather patches on them. ( not my fav) Couldn't find some good leather pictures, but I hope these denim ones help.
Last but not least is Boho style , this is my least favorite but it is very popular this year so I can't ignore it. Boho has all different kind of floral patterns and hippy lace, just everything I can't stand.
That's just some of my favorite trends for spring tops , if there is any trends I didn't mention then just let me know ! Happy shopping, next post is about spring pants and shoes.

Spring Candy

What's the icing on the cake to your perfect spring wardrobe ? Jewelry . How you chose to accessorize can make or break your outfit, you can't do too much and you also can't do to little. There are two types of offenders, the over accessorizer and the under accessorizer .
The over accessorizer has too much going on, they usually have on a necklace, matching earrings , bangles, a scarf, and rings. All of that is just too much , unless done right. But about 99% of people don't do it right, so just don't attempt. An over accessorizer  is a murderer, because all of that excess jewelry kills the outfit, takes away from it. All I'm wondering is what made you think that was okay?
An under accessorizer are less common, but they are out there. They can wear a cute outfit or plain and have no accessories at all ! Where's the spice? Your outfit is crying.
What kind of accessories you should be looking for this spring are bubblegum colors. Pastel colors are what's in for spring and can help accent your outfits.  Bubblegum color jewelry help create a softer look , and if that's your style then I suggest you go shop at Aldo Accessories or forever 21.BUT it can also add a edge to your look, if you get a massive chain with pink accents. If soft colors isn't your thing then try neon. I love chains that are dipped in neon pink and yellow. Something to add a little risk to your look. I'm going XL for spring , all my chains , earrings and bracelets are huge. I'm going big or going home. I just got this chain from Aldo accessories and I can't wait to flaunt it. I never thought that jewelry could make your mouth water, but it's possible.

Ripped Jeanz Rant

Ripped jeans has always been a trend since the beginning of time, but when can ripped jeans be too much ? I've been seeing some ripped jeans at school that are beyond ugly, and I believe it's time to discuss when ripped jeans are okay and when they are NOT.

How to wear ripped jeans:
I prefer the skinny jeans with slits on the knee such as the pair above, it's cute and not too much. It's the little details that give your outfit the pop that you need. You can wear this look with a tee shirt and a blazer , a floral or cute shirt with a leather jacket for some edge, or a  cardigan to be comfy. Another kind of jeans I am obsessed with is the boyfriend jeans, THEY are everything. I think the ripped boyfriend jeans are so cute, and are the perfect jeans to just throw on when you're on the go. You can wear them with a tee shirt with plaid tied around your waist, or wear it with a leather jacket but wear the jacket on your shoulders, or a cute button down with a big chain.

How to NOT wear them:
If your jeans are ripped from top to bottom then stop. If your jeans are so layered with rips that you have to wear leggings underneath, then stop. If your ripped jeans are acid wash or any kind of neon color, then stop. If there is a big gaping hole in your jeans and your whole knee is exposed, then stop. The last time I wore ripped jeans from top to bottom was in middle school, and they were made by Miley Cyrus from when she had a line at Walmart. That's when those kind of jeans were okay, six years ago. If you think your being edgy with all that craziness going on on with your jeans, your not it's tacky.

CAN WE NOT
Brandi can we not ?! Might as well be wearing shorts. Not cute.

Something Sweet : Valentine's Day Looks

Have any special plans for valentines day and not sure what to wear ? Here are some trends and tips that can help you get through it.
When everybody thinks of valentines day, we think of reds and pinks and floral. Make sure your outfit has a warm and light tone, and if your not that girly there is always a way to add an edge!
Now everybody's style is different but this what I would wear :
For a casual day out I would wear pale color high wasted jeans such as pink, beige, burgundy, with a graphic tee and a leather jacket and or knit cardigan. This outfit is cozy, cute, and casual. Or you can always wear a cut out shoulder sweater and or shirt with some colored pants, and a statement piece of jewelry. Here's some of my fav examples of a cut out sweater.

Both from Forever 21

For a night out you really want to wow your date ! Wear a dress that has a rich color like red or burgundy, and even white. The dress that is hot right now is the skater dress which can come in any color, but what I suggest for valentines day is a floral print, or velvet like material. If you wear a skater dress wear black tights, and make sure you have gold accent accessory pieces, especially if it's long sleeved (which I suggest), you HAVE to wear gold cuffs or bangles. If your dress is short sleeved wear it with a big fur fuzzy coat. Also dresses that wrap, giving a little peek a boo, of your shoulder or a little of your stomach, is very cute also.
Stay away from the basic lace outfit, we know it's valentines day but don't be so predictable.
If your daring wear a sheer dress either black or red, this is what I'm wearing ! I'll also post some pictures of my favorite dresses.Have a fashionable Valentine's day !-xoxo JT

The Duties of A Costume Designer

The duties of a costume designer for film and theater is a big difference. I've discussed on here some of the early steps for a film job but I never said the rest.
On set you make sure that all of the actor's clothes are pressed  and neat, and in their rooms or trailers. Once their on set make sure everything is on right and snap a photo for your look book. A look book helps production if they go back for re shoots. A look book has every character in the movie and what they wore for each scene in detail, along with their photo.
Once your actor is on set and acting , you have to check their looks in between each scene. I have to make sure his tie is straight or crooked, it has to match up with the previous scene !
On the short film I did, the guy had to dig a grave so I had to make his clothes dirty. Costume designers make blood and bullet holes and all kinds of stuff. So I used all different kinds of makeup and smeared it all over his clothes. It turned out really well !
Well those are some of the jobs for costume designers on set of a film. I am interning on another film next month, so there's more to come ! -xoxo Jt

You've Struck Gold: The Thrift Store

Never underestimate a thrift store, you'll never believe what you'll find. Some people are just plain snobs when it comes to a thrift store. Used clothes ?! *gasp* But guess what , all of my clothes that I get the most compliments on are from *gasp*, a thrift store. And I am not the only one who goes thrifting, celebrities do it to. Such as Miguel, Elle Varner, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Rachel Zoe ( celebrity stylist ). It's like panning for gold, you get a lot of junk but sometimes you find something great. You have to be patient and really love to shop, because going to a thrift store requires a lot of digging. Thrift stores are a place for fashion forward people and vintage lovers, because you can find some really timeless pieces. I'll never reveal where my thrift store is, find another gold mine for yourselves haha.

If you plan to go to the thrift store here's some tips :

  • Don't get overwhelmed, have a idea of what you're looking for.
  • Give the clothes a chance, if it seems crazy and different just buy it ! It's only three or four dollars but it could become a key item in your wardrobe.
  • Look at everything, never leave a rock unturned, cause you might miss something that could be great.
  • If something is damaged, like a missing button or a little tear, you can fix it !
  •  Wash everything you buy before wearing it
  • Don't buy underwear, bras, lingerie, socks, bathing suits, sheets, and towels.
Here's some of my favorite thrift store items ! Good luck and happy thrifting ! - xoxo JT
